Antoine Girard was determined to use paragliders in the Himalayas as gondola lifts are used in the Alps. The idea was simple; paragliders would take off in Karimabad, in Pakistan, approach the Spantik (7,027 m), and finish the ascent in alpine technique and return with the paraglider. Circumstances lead him to try it solo.
