Mountaineering cinema as a genre was born in 1924 with Arnold Fanck's film Der Berg des Schicksals and lasted for more than a decade. In the films of genre, the mountain becomes one more character and is the absolute heart of events, the enemy to beat.
Beyond mountaineering cinema as a genre, where mountains have a very specific meaning, mountains have had a fairly prominent presence in films of all kinds. In these films, mountains act only as a stage where adventures, disputes, love dramas or hilarious comedies have been set.
This exhibition is a compilation of posters, playbills and stills from twenty representative films of different genres where mountains, often metaphorically, have a remarkable and always different meaning.
