Images of Westerners reaching the summit of great mountains are often on TV. In most cases, behind it there's the achievement of a personal challenge, which is the story we are used to seeing or hearing. But there are other stories, often hidden. Like that of Mingma Sherpa, the first Nepali of the Sherpa ethnic group of the Burun Valley - one of the poorest in Nepal - to climb the 14 eight thousand. The last was the Kangchenjunga. His motives go beyond personal challenges. For Buddhists, reaching the top of a sacred mountain is a spiritual transformation.
